It's Summertime!

Well, I'm back... on xanga... again... It's been a busy summer so far, and it looks like it's going to get even busier. Such is life. My brother in law asked me to help out at his bakery for a couple of days while he when to Uncle Ray's funeral. As it turns out, making donuts is like riding a bike, who knew?

I went on a camping/climbing/hiking/biking trip to Toccoa, Georgia a few weekends ago. Currahee Mountain is the southernmost mountain in the Blue Ridge mountain range. (it's where Band of Brothers trained) Great place to do some rock climbing, if anyone is interested...

It stands 1740 feet above sea level.

My friends Beau and Fledge did most of the belaying...

There are climbs for everyone from beginner to expert.... Thats my buddy/twin Zach above me watching me stuff my face.

The ride up and down was a lot of fun. A huge thunderstorm came up right before we left, so the ride down was a bit more tricky...

I was able to get in on some front porch sittin with friends at Merv's place. Always a lot of fun...

I found out the hard way that trail riding in Georgia swamps is harder than it looks on a bike... Thanks to my buddy Lamar's Polaris 800 and winch, we made it through...

Stephen enjoyed throwing mud as well...

I like to ride trails anywhere I can find them. It's pretty hard here around athens, but I've found a few gems. I wrapped a piece of wire up in my chain and laid her over  awhile back.... ooops!

I enjoy watching the show "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe... I had to do a double-take on this episode when I saw the name across the front of his helmet... nice... (this was the windmill episode)

This weekend I took my scuba gear back home and went diving in Curtis's pond. He wanted to drain the pond but the release valve had rusted off... I got it open, but a snapping turtle got stuck in the pipe a few hours later, requiring another dive. We eventually got it drained and caught the fish. You can find more pictures on my brothers site. http://www.xanga.com/lorenreneebarnhart

And last but not least, I got to hang out with a bunch of really neat nieces and nephews!

The Non-Leaning Tower of Pisa

Sorry about the quality of these pictures... I took them with my webcam.

So, I found a program on the internet that lets you blow up a photo to any size you want. Of course I blew up a photo of the leaning tower of pisa.

Through the use of some clever angling techniques, I was able to right the wrong that is the "leaning" tower of Pisa. By the way, it only cost me $1.80 to print it out on regular old copy paper.

This is a poster I found at an old junk store downtown. It gives my room a little taste of home from the 'ol W'boro (Birddog Capitol of the World, for those wondering)

I'm pretty proud of this photo of David by Michelangelo (also found at the junk store), he keeps an eye on anyone entering or exiting my room.

The sheet music above the piano is also a junk store steal. It's pretty interesting, written in old english and all...  I have four of them, "The Chace", "The Lass of Natties Mill" and "On Beauty" are on the wall. A note on one says that these four plates are humbly inscribed for the Honorable Earl of Halifax.

Here is an email forward that I actually read... I'm glad I did...

Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares
.

Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together
.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love.

Nederlandse vertaling

Dood mijn dood is winst
